I was listening to an interesting recording recently about a Harvard study on Upward Social Mobility.
Social Mobility is the movement of individuals, families, households, or other categories of people within or between social strata in a society.
Specifically, my interest was focused on how some people move up from one socio-economic category to the next category.
To be a little clearer, there are 5 socio-economic categories in the United States;
Upper Class
Upper Middle Class
Middle Class
Lower Middle Class
Lower Class
My question then was…
What most predicts financial SUCCESS in America?
How is it that some people move from one class to the next and others don’t?
After much reading and pondering, here is my simple 4 sentence discovery:
1. Successful people have a long-term perspective (not the right now...the I WANT, but the I WILL)
2. Everything counts (Success comes from focusing on details – the small stuff)
3. 10% will and 90% won’t (and that is being very generous)
4. Successful people take ACTION (they don’t wait…they do!)
Achieving significant levels of success is actually not that difficult.
Those that passionately and enthusiastically seek it will find it, and when they do it honestly and ethically, most will continue to maintain it.
And Also...YOU get to define what SUCCESS is for YOU…not what the world thinks it is!
Smiles, have a GREAT week and Keep Building Trust...Mark
