“Painstorming” and YOU!
You’ve heard of brainstorming……..
The definition is:
ˈbrānˌstôrming / verb
1. Produce an idea or way of solving a problem by holding a spontaneous group discussion.
A couple of weeks ago, I came across a new word that I wrote in that little book I always keep in my pocket.
I’m not sure if I came up with it in one of my more focused moments or if I heard it somewhere from another source………but the word is “Painstorming”
My definition is:
ˈpānˌstôrming / double extreme verb
1. A focused and intentional period of time set aside each day or each week to work on solutions to your problems and/or solutions to your customers’ problems.
People make decisions based on Pleasure or Pain (what they are experiencing).
Your customers make decisions about you, your service, and your business the same way.
And……..science shows us that our brains make decisions emotionally then justify them with facts.
On Monday, I flew from Raleigh to Atlanta to Dallas to speak in Garland, TX to a terrific company.
In Atlanta, The Delta gate attendants offered a new service.
Give them your overhead carryon luggage and they will load it above your seat for you ahead of passenger boarding with the intent to expedite the whole boarding process.
The concept is in fact very customer centric.
Boarding is almost always a frustration for me and it appears frustrating for most everyone else.
So, this new option appears brilliant and I can’t wait to read the end results!
Whether Delta’s solution to this difficult problem came through brainstorming or painstorming also remains to be seen.
Why don’t you consider setting aside 30 minutes today to “painstorm”?
Or, how about some time this week?
I’d be willing to wager that with concentrated effort you’ll come up with some doozy solutions to the challenges you or your customers face.
Let me know how it goes………..painstorm away!
