Are you trapped in the need to always be right? Sometimes I am. We often experience other people that have the same character flaw regardless of age, career, or title.
The most powerful thing we could do when criticized is set the impulse aside to defend ourselves. Instead, vigorously pursue the critic’s line of thought and point of view.
Consider asking yourself these questions:
1. Can I gain a new insight by being defenseless?
2. What can I learn from this criticism?
3. What possibilities are here for me to become more effective?
Defenselessness opens doors and creates possibilities we might have otherwise missed and it allows us to grow in influence with the other person. It may be hard, but it is likely worth the effort. I’m going to try it more often. I just bet I’ll learn something new that makes me a better person………..have a great week………Mark
