Winning the Gold!
I have really enjoyed watching the winter Olympics.
The mastery of near perfect performance is inspiring.
Sadly, only one in each event receives the gold, only one the silver and only one the bronze.
But………….no athlete goes home unrewarded.
Each leaves Sochi with the knowledge that they competed in something extraordinary!
I believe their real Medal of Honor comes from a statement made by Eddie “The Eagle” Edwards, last place finisher in the ski jumping event of the 1988 Calgary Olympics.
Eddie said: “Success doesn’t come from competing with others, but setting your own priorities and achieving them.”
At its core, isn’t that what SUCCESS and WINNING is?
Steven Covey anchors this thought with another wise quote:
“How different our lives are when we really know what is deeply important to us, and keeping that picture in mind, we manage ourselves each day to be and to do what really matters most.”
And that, my dear friend, is what winning and success are really about. Competing only with ourselves to perform at our highest level, setting priorities, and doing what matters most. This is how we win the gold. This is how we change the world.
