Your Mother’s Great Advice

The story goes that Abraham Lincoln’s mother, Nancy Lincoln, once said to her son, “Abe, be somebody”.
Urban legend embellishes the story by suggesting “be somebody” was Nancy’s last known statement to her Abraham as she passed away at the young age of 34 of what could have been milk sickness.
If it is true, I believe there is more to the message than just two words.
I would submit that Abraham’s mother would actually have meant:
Be an Example….like most mothers
Be Real……..be yourself…….be authentic
Be Patient…..and slow to anger
Be Strong…but not rude
Be Kind….but not weak
Be Bold….but not a bully
Be Humble….but not timid
Be Thoughtful….but not a pushover
Be Proud….but not arrogant
Be Humorous…..but not lighthearted
Be Smart….but not smart-alecky
Be Faithful….but not a hypocrite
I believe that is what each of our mothers would want………….
Smiles, have a special Mother’s Day, take action on your priorities and Keep on Seeking……………..Mark
